Attitude

My goal - “The right note, at the right time, all the time” it doesn’t do any good to show off at the expense of the front people. If they’re having a hard time then the whole band performance suffers. I can shred but I know when not too. Over 4000 working band gigs. 100+ gigs per year 1980-2020 with over 80 groups. Every type of bass gig except sight reading with an orchestra. That’s hard ha ha! The rest are easy.

Influences

All sound!!!! Actually studied bass in person with Jaco, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Berlin in the 80s. Chris Squire, Geddy Lee and John Paul Jones are big influences. First albums purchased in youth, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Rush. Bought “Kiss Alive” in the 70’s not knowing what any instruments sounded like. “What’s the guy with the tongue play?” I asked. First bass in hand I started learning some Kiss songs. The high school music teacher heard I owned a bass and “drafted” me into the school jazz band. I was the only student who owned a bass. Crash course in music indeed! The school band in those days would leave school to play old folks homes. Technically a few gigs before 1980. The drinking age was 18 back then so I joined working bands right out of high school. The 80s and 90s were my “part time rock star” years. Low budget touring while being in bands locally famous enough to sign autographs and appear on mtv occasionally. From 2000 to 2020 was the “serious” “pay me” hired gun gigs. Mostly I was called upon to sub and would get a list of songs a few days before the gig. I then meet the band for the very first time, at the gig, and away we’d go!

Equipment

Multiples of everything and I can fix everything. Master luthier too.
